February 2018 Announcements

Hello parents at Williams Elementary:

It's been a while since the last announcement but here is what is going on in music for the month of February:

• The Black History Celebration will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 6:00pm. All grade levels will be represented. Participating students will receive extra credit towards their music grade. Please arrive starting at 5:30 so we can line up and get started on time. Everyone is invited to attend!

• Students in 3rd-5th Grade will have a quiz on famous African American musicians that we have been studying since January. Students have taken notes in class and the quiz will be from those notes. Please help your child study. The quizzes will be ten questions and will be held at the end of February. 
• 3rd Grade has learned about Scott Joplin
• 4th Grade has learned about Thomas A. Dorsey
• 5th Grade has learned about Freddie King, B. B. King, and Albert King

Clubs

Attention Williams Elementary Parents:

Music Clubs are now starting up!

4th and 5th Grade Band will have tryouts on Thursday from 1:45-2:30. Club dues are $10. Even though band is officially starting next week, I can also try kids out for instruments next Tuesday and Thursday as well. Students don't need to know how to play an instrument in order to try out. I have a few instruments available to borrow for the year. Please pay a fee of $50 to cover cleaning and light repairs. I have two flutes, two trombones, two trumpets, and one clarinet available to borrow. First come, first served. Students will also still need to purchase a stand and a book. You may come see Mr. Thomas for a form or download one from this website.

Chorus has started. It is open to 2nd-5th grade students. Club dues are $10. If your child is interested please come see Mr. Thomas. You may also download a form from this website.

Both groups are open to 4th and 5th grade students for a cost of $15.

Black History Month Songs

Parents and students here are the songs for 3rd-5th grade songs for the Black History celebration next Thursday, March 5 at 6:00pm. K-2 know their songs really well since we have been practicing since January. All of the songs are coming straight from the publishers so they may cut in and out. Due to copyright laws we can no longer have songs on the internet. We can copy the songs to CD-R's or mp3 players or flash drives. Have your child bring one to Mr. Thomas for a copy.

Winter Concert Songs

Don't forget that the Williams Elementary Music Department Winter Concert is next Thursday, December 11 at 6:00pm in the Williams Cafeteria. Parents, please arrive by 5:30 so we may line up and get started on time.

Quiz Make Ups

Attention Williams Elementary 4th and 5th grade parents and students:

Recently we took quizzes. If your child did not do well on the quiz, you should have received a copy of the quiz with a note attached. Please be mindful that your child needs to make up the quiz by October 16. That is the last day for the grading window. Once it passes, I can not go back and edit the final grade for the 1st Nine Weeks of school.
