4th and 5th Grade Wildcat Band

The Williams Elementary Wildcat Band gives students the opportunity to explore band before middle school. It is open to all 4th and 5th grade students that adhere to the requirements of high scholarship and behavior.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Students are expected be at rehearsal on time and remain for the entire practice. Rehearsal starts at 1:45pm and ends at 2:30pm
  • Students are expected to be at rehearsal on assigned days (every Tuesday and Thursday unless otherwise noted)
  • Students are expected to bring a note signed by a parent or guardian if rehearsal has to be missed. Parents may also email Mr. Thomas at thomasmv@gm.sbac.edu or call the school, 955-6719, and leave a message as well. Students that have four unexcused rehearsals will be dismissed from the program.
  • Students are expected to be on blue, green, or yellow for their behavior during the school day.Students are also expected to follow directions and be on the best behavior during after school rehearsals. If students are constantly on orange or red or can not behave at rehearsals, they will be dismissed from the program. I will use parent phone calls or parent conferences to avoid dismissal from the program. If the problem(s) have not been solved after speaking with parents then the student will have to be dismissed from the program
  • Students are expected to bring their instrument, music, and a pencil to every rehearsal. Not having your instrument will be documented. Skipping practice because of a forgotten instrument will count as an unexcused absence. Students will not be allowed to perform with the group if they have excessively not brought their music and/or instruments to rehearsals.
  • Students are expected to practice at least 15 mins per day
  • Students are expected to keep their instrument in working order. That means making sure valves or slides are oiled, corks have been greased, etc. If the instrument has been damaged please let Mr. Thomas know immediately.

PLAYING TESTS

Every week students are being assigned weekly playing tests. Students are expected to prepare the material to a satisfactory level. Please use the "pass off" page in the back of your child's band book as a reference. Students will have a set time to complete the rows of assignments. Band members will accomplish these goals if they practice a minimum of 15 minutes a day. If students are having trouble, they are expected to ask for help from Mr. Thomas. Taking private lessons is encouraged but not necessary to stay in the band.
